Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York is proud to announce a new scholarship opportunity for Gold Award Girl Scouts: The McGraw Family - Allison Marinucci Gold Award Scholarship.
Established by the family of Caroline McGraw, Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York’s first National Gold Award Girl Scout, in honor of Allison Marinucci, former Program Manager for Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, the purpose is to recognize Gold Award Girl Scouts for achievement in the areas of leadership and service.
"While I was going through my Gold Award process, I noticed many other councils offered scholarships," said Caroline. "Since I think we have the best Girl Scout council in the country, I wanted to make sure our girls had the same opportunities as others. So, I asked my parents what we could do to be supportive."
As the first girl from GSNENY to earn National Gold Award Girl Scout, The McGraw family believes they "have a special obligation to support and promote the mission of GSUSA and GSNENY." As a result, they funded a $500 scholarship for current Girl Scouts who have earned their Gold Awards, are graduating seniors, and plan to continue their education after high school.
"I hope G.I.R.L.s are inspired like I was to see their Gold Award project through to the end," explains Caroline. "Allison Marinucci and the GSNENY staff provided tremendous support to me throughout my 13-year career. Now, more than ever, the mission of Girl Scouts is valuable in the lives of girls throughout the country. I am proud to be a Lifetime member."
The deadline to apply for the The McGraw Family - Allison Marinucci Gold Award Scholarship is April 26. Caroline will present the recipient the scholarship at the 2019 Silver and Gold Award Ceremony on May 19.
